During the rainy season in Costa Rica, many incredible insects ‘come to light’. One of them is this very large grasshopper called ‘langosta’ (lobster). Its lush green appears in combinations with reds and blacks or blues. It is a gorgeous sight. The rainy season also means that nature gets louder: grasshoppers chirp, birds sing, frogs croak, june bugs bump into anything they can bump into. In homage to this beautiful & unique concert filled with vibrant colors, the grasshopper is painted with interpretations of patterns found on the typical costarican “carreta” – the ox cart. The colors echo those seen amongst tropical flowers & golden accents further add dimension to the painting.
